Silk Lantern Pendant

Originally designed in 1951 by Ejner Larsen and Aksel Bender Madsen, the Silk Lantern pairs natural silk, walnut veneer, and steel in a light, refined form. Japanese influences are evident in the cylindrical shade and restrained use of materials, balanced by the clarity of Danish modern design.

The natural silk shade softly diffuses the light, creating a warm gradient of brightness and shadow. FSC-certified walnut veneer rings frame the shade above and below, while a lacquered steel structure adds definition and gives the design its distinctive floating appearance.

Available in floor, pendant, and wall versions, the collection carries the same materials and proportions across multiple applications. Though conceived more than seventy years ago, the Silk Lantern was never produced during the designers’ lifetime, making its introduction a rare opportunity to experience one of their previously unrealized designs.
